While value is subjective, what do you all think? While most of us don't have (or aren't willing to shell out) that kind of change, is this a good deal?

Gosh, I wish Senn would produce the HE90s once again - I'd probably buy the Woo WES in a second if they did. As for the HEV90, I don't know much about it, but I've read that the technology today is much better now than it was when it was in production.

I wonder if Sennheiser's thinking of getting back into the electrostat market again, or whether it's even worth their time and cost to do so...

think of it the other way, what price would be good: $10K, or $6k, or say $1500 ? who decide?

I disagree. It's not all relative. Or at least at some point, I think there naturally becomes an objective 'truth' type of price point, above which it's just crazy when considering one's alternative uses of funds.

IMO, paying over $20k for the Orpheus system is indeed crazy. Of course, you have to take into account the fact that I already have an Orpheus (thus, I don't want one at this point), and I (almost for sure) don't have the kind of money that the person who paid over $20k does.

But I keep saying the same thing every time I go on a trip to Europe in business class and about choke when I see that the company paid anywhere from $7k to $9k for my ticket. That's just for an air bus ride. It doesn't make sense to me that there would be enough demand for this service to command such a price on a consistent basis when an economy ticket is normally about $1k (more or less).

I guess some things just don't make sense to me in terms of the value proposition.

Especially when you're lucky enough to be able to chat up the stewardess (or steward) and they seat you in business anyway - or if you get an exit row on, say, a trans-Pacific flight for the price of coach....

I can just imagine how the folks who paid full freight fume when that happens (and it happens a lot, apparently)...

I think it's interesting that the seller said that he only put 100 hours on the Orpheus/HEV90 over the ten years he owned the rig. While he probably made a couple of grand on it, I'm guessing he got caught up in the heat of obtaining the set-up, figured he'd use it, and then, once he got it, the inevitable let down, hence, the low usage ... But I'm just speculating from the standing-room only bleacher seats, so what do I know? ...

I hope it was worth $20k to whoever bought it, but I would never put that kind of money into one. That kind of money buys you an income-producing investment. I'd rather have checks roll in each month than listen to the HE90, as excellent as it is.

I also think this type of speculation is short-sighted. Sennheiser could make more. Sennheiser could also produce a new, better electrostat for 10% of that cost.

Shhhh!!! Don't be telling people that. Don't you know that the next one is always more valuable than the last one? My HE90/HEV90 system is now officially on sale for $30k.

(I was going to say $25k, but I'm seriously worried that someone might just agree to that price, and then I'd have to pull my hair out trying to decide what to do!).

Good Uncle, don't you know that headphones are the safest investments around these days? Hell, even money markets are negative.

From my listens to the HE90 I'd say it's a good headphone, but I think even Lambdas are a little better.

I really wish you wouldn't bring my portfolio into this. The statements have been depressing lately.

I've thought about diversifying more into electrostats, but there's still a bitter taste leftover from my traumatic Beanie Baby losses.

Only $5000 more than new,hardly worth thinking about.
Plenty drop 10/20 times that on a car that depreciates more than the cost of the phones as soon as you jump in it.
If you have got it you may as well spend it.
