I'd also recommend getting the 9v clips from rat-shack. They're cheaper and they're about the same as the ones you end up getting at digikey. Get the heavy-duty ones though. The soft-padded ones suck

Make sure that you get the correct number of each part.

Did you buy the soldering iron and multimeter from RadioShack? If so, I am sorry. I get the occasional switch and 9V packs from there, but their meters and irons are craptastic.

Their irons suck, but their meters are alright, but pricey for what they are. You can buy the 50 pc metal film resistor kit for $5 or so that has alot of useful values (you could build 2 CMoys with it).

Also to the OP... you have a knob, but no volume pot (see CAvanessia's list, last item). The knob won't do you much good without it...

I just ordered CAvanessia's list that he posted. If this fails...I'll blame him -_-. So I ordered a green LED without noticing it.... I guess that'll work, but blooooo is much better

. I DID buy rs iron and DMM....but BOTH are cheapies for a reason- If I stick with this stuff and maybe sell some amps on the side I'll invest in much high-end stuff, but if not....not too much of a loss. I decided that the dual-watt iron is the best way...it's the most non-radioshack iron they had....as far as design and build. I hope both of these items will last 2 or 3 projects until I decide to get better equipment.

ALSO, what are these Cmoys that I'm seeing with dual 9v setups? Is it just an extra powersource, or is it based on a different design? I can't seem to find any info on this.

Its just two 9V wired in series to give 18V instead of 9V. Nothing special.

That's great

Don't blame me if it doesn't work with the right parts. How much did the radioshack iron cost? I bought a Hakko Dash for $25 at Frys, and its wonderful.

also, check out local dollar stores for some alligator clips. i found two dollar stores that stocked them and made a handful of alligator clips for testing the cmoy.

don't blame me for this too! =)

Really? You have used one? I've always gotten by just great with my ratshack irons.

Only time I ever saw a want for a better iron was when I needed to desolder some thick joints that hold a chassis together. Notice I said want because it got done, just not as quickly as my lazy self wanted.

(heat up you dang iron)

The dual-wattage one cost 12 dollars. It's a lot different than the hakko....and the other rs ones for that matter. I've been soldering stuff with it....and it pretty much does it's job. As long as it doesn't crap out it'll do for a month or two.
