I recently bought a new LG TV which has no analog audio outputs for my headphones and I had to buy an optical to analog converter to plug in the transmitter for my wireless headphones. I note ads for optical wireless headphones in which the optical cable plugs directly into the transmitter. I assume that in these the converter is just located within the transmitter or the headphones and buying a set of these would not give me any improvement. Question-- Is this correct? I don't care to spend the $150-200 if it wouldn't improve the sound. I am hard of hearing and need the headphones but am not an audiophile so don't have to have the absolute best quality sound.
I also note thet the sound coming through to my headphones varies a lot and I have to adjust the volume manually each time i change channel (cable) Appreciate any advice--MHB

Hi, I'll take a stab at this and say that you probably won't notice a difference buying new headphones with the optical built in. I doubt the purchase is worth it.
And, can you adjust the volume with the tv? Maybe put on some sort of volume correction in the menu for the tv? Something called "steady sound" or something to that effect?

Optical into your headphones will be the DTS multichannel sound if present, or the stereo sound of the non-HD program.

I could not tell you if the DAC in your TV is better than the DAC in the headphone base. As they are both probably similar, and base, I bet they sound about the same, but that is conjecture.

Not sure if it will give you and continuity of volume or SQ over the analog out from your TV.
