No, the other two are as smooth (HD600) or smoother (400i). It's an intentional dip in the high frequencies.

It doesn't mean it's bad (some people may prefer rolled highs; this is almost the definition of a "warm" sound), just that the difference is apparent and I didn't go for it.

Been using new PM-3 for a few hours and I am pleased so far.  I consider it an upgrade from old ATH-M50 and AKG K141.  They are good enough but I find the PM-3 more revealing of details in the music. I miss having replaceable ear pads. The AKG came with optional velour pads which I prefer, at least for those phones.

I like the denim carry case.   Did you notice that "oppo" turned around looks like "oddo"?

Why PM-3?  Well I was reading "Battle of the Cans" in April edition of MaximumPC where DT1770 PRO had perfect soundstage but OPPO PM-3 was more practical with less cost.  So I decided to try planar magnetic.

Hello! newb here.

I wanted to ask anyones opinion on exchanging my BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm for the Oppo PM-3s. I have the 770s powered by a FiiO E12 amp into an Astro Mixamp (optical into) Xbox One. Overkill, I know. Also the only way to achieve Dolby surround.

I have the (open back) Philip's Fidelio X2s. They are amazing. But I am looking for closed back, primarily for gaming and music. Though the 770s have great sound, the non-removable cord and less-portable design, inspire me to get the Oppo's. Being an amateur, I'm interested in hearing Planar tech as well.

Cons I have read about the Oppo's are minor comfort issues and not as much bass as some prefer. I'm not a basshead but I do like a little kick (the 770s have fantastic bass). The E12 amp has a bass boost and is more than sufficient for games when it's needed.

Thank you. Any information is appreciated!
