Is there by any chance we can buy the PM-1 without the wooden box and get a discount.?
My T1 box had been sitting in the storeroom since I bought it day1.
Just thinking aloud for being environmental friendly...

[. . .] I think the PM1's are great but you can save $400 by giving up the wooden box, real leather for synthetic, velour pads, and maybe a few minor parts not being aluminum (frames will still be aluminum) with same sound quality. [. . .]

If Oppo will be selling PM1 replacement earpads, maybe they'll fit on PM2 too.

There is always the PM-2.

I'm beta testing the PM-2...  The PM-1 and PM-2 can use each other's ear pads, no problem.

The PM-1 comes with lambskin and velour, the PM-2 with a synthetic material that is so similar in appearance and texture to the lambskin that it's easiest to tell the difference by smelling them.

I haven't heard if OPPO will make any of the ear pads available for independent purchase.

Thanks.

It's going to have to sell all the earpads separately once people need replacements--especially the velours, which should be switched fairly often.

I find leather much cooler on the ears than any pleather. If I like it enough to buy, it will be PM1 anyway as Oppo could use the money.

We will be selling the leather and velour pads separately in pairs as replacements for PM-1 customers and as alternatives for PM-2 customers. Pricing and release date to be determined.

So... are you NDA'ed, or can you let on if the PM-2 does indeed sound like the PM-1? :)

Kinda tempted to pick up a PM-1 when I visit the US in the summer, but if I can pick up a PM-2 and a Crack with Speedball for the same price, perhaps that's a better use of $1,100,-

You wouldn't want to pair the crack with a planar mag hp...bad mismatch.

Also I'm surprised that the pads are not already for sale at launch. I'm a guy that likes to have spares.

Back from the Fujya Avic's spring's headphone festival in Tokyo, the sensation of the day for me was the PM-1/HA-1 combo (driven balanced, using iPhone ALAC through front USB port).

Will write more later but, suffice to say, this is really tempting as a bedside 2nd rig (I have to sleep on this, don't be foolish  ). I am a stax-addict, but this is certainly not leaving me wanting from the (albeit short) auditions I made today.  Both products are pretty darn impressive for a company who's just starting with headphones!

Thanks for sharing the info. For me, there just isn't much "scale" associated with the pm-1 and amps. While this hp does benefit modestly from a desktop amp just about any will do the job. The Vali at 1/10 the cost of the HA-1 will get you up to speed on the pm-1 IMO.

I am in cancer treatment, and the velours get warm and sweaty for me, so I have to limit my listening to about an hour at a time.  I would like to have extra velour pads so I can just change them every hour.  That will be necessary for me to keep these after the 30 days!  The ear pads should have been available already!
