Hmmm, I have a decision to make, and don't know of ANYONE who has done a comparison like this. I can either get the SE version of the Oppo, or I can get the standard version with the Musical Fidelity Vdac.
Does ANYONE know which would most likely sound better ? They are about the exact same price, so I just wonder what the better choice is ?

Currently debating this myself with the wrinkle that I don't know if the multi-region mods work on the SE, though I don't know of any reason they won't. There's a lot of good blu-rays coming out in europe.

Multi region works on NuForce one only from what I heard.

The Oppo SE is a no-regret buy.

It's well-made, the Sabre DACs are outstanding, and a bargain to boot.

Another vote for the 32 bit dacs in the SE, which will give you more upside if you decide to improve upon a player that is already very good bang for the buck. I have heard the full RAM mod on this player and it is nothing short of stunning on both Redbook and SACD. That is where my next 2-grand or so is going.

RAM = Reference Audio Mods.

Does anyone know if it is possible to feed the BDP-83SE with pc files and use it as a stand-alone dac?

Would be nice, seeing as how the SE unit's DAC is very highly regarded (I have the standard 83, which is no slouch itself). But the BDP-83 has no digital input and its USB capabilities are limited to reading thumb drives and modest external HDs.
