hi I'm new to head-fi.  I'm looking into getting a good sound setup this Christmas I wanted to know if these are good or if i should choose other equpment as an introduction to high end headphones.

Headphones: audio-technia ATH-M50
AMP- fiio e7
Music player- laptop/ipod

i mainly use this on the go so Im going for a good portable setup that i can still use at home. from what i know the e7 is a good DAC/ amp so i can use it on my pc as a external sound card as well as a portable amp on my ipod. i also heard that the M50 is a good intro headphone under 200. i cant spend a lot of money so my price rage is from 200- 250 for both the amp and the headphones. Please share thoughts and opinons about this. Also if you have suggestions for better products i would love to hear them.

What are you preferred genres and what's your preferred sound signature? I don't generally suggest the ATH-M50 much anymore unless you're looking for a sound that's truly middle-of-the-road. If you're a basshead, a detail guy, a midrange addict, want a genre-specific headphone, or any other niche, there's generally something better than the ATH-M50 out there.
