Jazz - Not complex enough.
Trance - Not enough bass and way to short.
Rock - Needs more double bass.
Classical - Too many people playing instruments.
Opera - Not enough people singing.
Metal - Needs more cow bell.
Disco - To much fever.
Happy Hard Core - Too much happy.
Indie - Not original enough.
Emo - Needs more HAPPY!
J-Pop - Not enough high pitch girls.
Bob Dylan - His singing sucks.
Pop - Not popular enough, no one listens to it.
Folk - Far to new.
Alternative - The original was better.

What are your opinions on music genres?

Today's rap and pop music is utter trash, so devoid of originality that it pains me to listen to them for more that a minute. Big offenders include the Disney teen bands/artists, rappers like 50 Cent and Soulja Boi, and the recent resurgence of other crap pop bands from the past like Panic at the Disco and Backstreet Boys.

Rock in general is good, as long as it's not made by Nickelback, Creed, or other similar bands.

Emo music can go to hell for all I care.

Metal is great stuff for me, particularly when it goes progressive and/or death.

Classical is nice for unwinding after a long day at work/school.

The so called "Rappers," were so dumb that when they tried to spell their genre they forgot the "C."

plus some of the first that pop into my head
Jazz - america's only true original genre, frantic and free, dizzying form of expression. unique voices, scales, chords. coltrane, davis, fitzgerald, gershwin
Trance/Down Tempo - mathematical music that lets you drift into the depths of your mind, utilizes obscure sounds. nightmares on wax, thievery corporation, RJD2, chemical bros, kraftwerk
Soul - most tortured vocalists, earth shaking energy, what i think is the most moving next to classical ray charles, otis redding, aretha franklin, james brown
Rock - fun, simple, energetic. too many to name, the dead, joplin, zeppelin, hendrix, floyd
Classical - the best instrumentalists you will ever hear, close your eyes long enough at a live performance in a good seat and you'll experience the most intense synesthesia, i promise. f***ing Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, bach, chopin, Mahler
Opera - amazing discipline, voice acrobatics
Metal - a good anger release, makes the petty stress in life seem pale in comparison to the angst displayed. a lot of amazing instrumentalists. exposes a whole new generation of musicians to classical theory by utilizing raw technicality
Disco/Funk - funky...electric slide, enough said. curtis mayfield, earth wind fire
Indie - a more edgy version of pop, some of these guys are so prolific and underexposed it's painful
Emo - whine about things in a unique way, say what they feel...which a lot of people could benefit from doing
Pop - the few, the lucky, the not necessarily talented in any way... except stevie wonder and elton
Folk - thoughtful, phenomenal voices that manage to retain their human-ness
Punk - looks more interesting than it sounds, but soooo fun : ]
Rap/Hip-Hop - poetry in fast forward, but i can't stand snap-click rap.

There's satisfying music in EVERY genre, it's just difficult to find...and you're not gonna hear it on the radio.

don't mean to suck the life out of the thread but I'm slightly offended:
I know it's a light hearted thread but try not to analyze other peoples art and expression in the simplest and most convenient terms possible, it's insulting and lazy at best. this is some people's livelihood. It's easy to criticize the bad music in each genre. You really have to make an honest attempt at playing each genre; listen intently to really feel what they are trying to convey. learn their language even if it's a watered-down version of your own. don't ever limit yourself, forbidding an entire genre because it pissed you off at some point is like saying you hate any paintings that use the color blue.

retards attempting poetry did make me chuckle though :p

love, Al.

"I'll tell you what classical music is, for those of you who don't know. Classical music is this music that was written by a bunch of dead people a long time ago. And it's formula music, the same as top forty music is formula music. In order to have a piece be classical, it has to conform to academic standards that were the current norms of that day and age ... I think that people are entitled to be amused, and entertained. If they see deviations from this classical norm, it's probably good for their mental health."

Mainstream Pop - Needs to die, no mercy.
Pop - Light and catchy
Jazz - Lacks clear and solid pattern, "plot-line". Confusing?
Metal - Varied, from mere anger release to playing around with primal fears and rejoices on taboos
Punk - Doesnt matter if you can play, attidute and message are what counts
Rap and Hiphop - Varied. From Retards Attempting Poetry to stuff with meaning and message.
Emo - Needs either to get a grip or die miserably and painfully.
Rock - Balls to the wall!
Trance - Catchy and fun though brainless.
Ambient - Trippy
Country - Some good, some bad, lot of horrible.
Folk - Blast from the history of mankind
Classical - Complex. Some dumb and bombastic, some beautiful and naturally flowing.
