Hey guys, I'm wondering if any of you Grado users have had any experience with the CHA47 versus any other amps. I see used headrooms and creeks going for just over 100 dollars here, and am wondering whether I'd be best to invest my money in one of those commercial amps, or to commission someone to build me a CHA47.

Additionally, can anyone comment on erix's variation of the CHA47 design.

toodles.

The 47 amp can sound better than the Creek obh-11 (but not mine

). The sound in these 47s can vary depending on build quality, and component quality - especially capacitors - in my experience. If you lean towards the Creek, see if you can snag mecano's modified one for only $120. I performed a similar operation with great results. If you get a 47, and already enjoy Grados, you'll love the warmth this amp provides.

The cha47's sound is dependant on the opamp and the power supply. My cha47 with ad843 class A fet's and regulated power supply, sounds very good, IMO. It has no problem driving my ety4s and Grado 60. Better than a Creek? Dunno. I wouldn't give up my cha47 for a stock Creek. Maybe for mecano's Creek.

I have a Tangent-built CHA47 with AD823 op-amps, powered by a 9V...I thought it sounded better with my Grado SR-325s than the Creek OBH-11, but I didn't compare it with the OBH-11SE or OBH-21.
