Just ordered mine today. Anyone have it yet? Anyone know who worked on the 5.1 mix?

It is only DTS and DD. No MLP

Let me know how you like the mix...

Man, Amy had better stop pushing for re-releases. It's getting ridiculous to own so many copies of the same thing, even if it is a different format.

I'll probably still pick it up, though. Spineless consumer and Opeth nut that I am.

Ack. That means the original "Ghost Reveries" CD will have better stereo sound quality, considering it's an HDCD (if you can decode that). A 5.1 track and it's not even MLP? Most 5.1 discs contain both MLP 24/xx surround content and a 24-bit PCM stereo track, so the authors can't use lack of space as an excuse.

C'mon Opeth/Roadrunner, release it on DVD-Audio!

Agreed. While searching for the "Ghost Reveries" 5.1 mix, I also saw that they've released an Opeth "Box Set." It looks like it contains "Blackwater Park," "Deliverance," and "Damnation," as well as a CD with the live performance of the album "Damnation" from the "Lamentations" DVD. D'oh... And that's the only way to get it. Only $34, though, so perhaps I'll give away the other CDs as presents.

My copy came yesterday, but the wife didn't want to hear it on the 5.1 setup. Only had a chance to watch the DVD documentary. Pretty interesting for Opeth fans. Sad to see the drummer deteriorate. I hope he gets it back together b/c IMO, he was just perfect for the band. For some reason, so many drummers I personally know have gone down a similar road.

In any case, the 5.1 track will be tested today.

Can you say useless 5.1?

I turned it off after 30 seconds of each track. Sounds like 2 channel matrixed across 5 channels. The rear channels simply mimic the front channels at a lower volume. I hate those kinds of mixes. Proper 2 channel always sounds better. If they are going to bother doing 5.1, they should have at least attempted to do something interesting.

Very disappointing to say the least. Well, back to my original stereo HDCD copy, which sounds great.

Yeah, I had a feeling. Just by looking at the bitrate and the lack of MLP, it was obvious there was no pride put into this. It is a shame though, as Opeth is one of the only metal bands that have the music to have a REALLY good 5.1 mix. I bet if Steven Wilson had control of the mix, it would be sensational. I love his work.

Ahh jeese, Opeth going down the same road as all those other "underground, all of a sudden famous" bands....selling out to make a quick buck.

Darn, some of their stuff is down right brilliant.

I almost picked the 5.1 up until I read the post.

It is nice though, to see that there are others that enjoy the Opeth catelog.

Opeth has not sold out. Blame Roadrunner for this silly Deluxe Edition, not Opeth.

And anyways, Ghost Reveries is a great album which is definitely worth buying. Especially since the price of the regular edition is now very cheap.

Absoultely. Ghost Reveries is simply one of my instant all time favorites. I don't even really listen to any other metal, but something about their songwriting and musicianship transcends the genre and draws me in. The recording quality is also excellent. The Baying of the Hounds resonates through my house on a daily basis.

The documentary is pretty cool for Opeth fans. I always like looking into the creative process.

There is also an extra song on the CD.
