I'm looking for headphones with the same level of detail that the Mad Dogs brought while being as comfortable as possible. I don't to be in a position of not wanting to use the Mad Dogs because they sound worse or the other way around.

Frequency response isn't important. Only comfort/SQ/soundstage matter.

Right now I'm looking at DT880's/990's(I don't know if they will be comfortable enough), HD 600's, AKG K7XX (I don't know if the earpads are too shallow), AKG K712 or Fidelio X2 (I'm not sure if the ear pads are large enough).

Old Hifiman's are out of the question and it seems like the the new HE400i's earpads aren't big enough to get an entire ear in there.

Headphone comfort is a very individual thing.  Sizing and sensitivities are unique to each person.  We can point you to headphones that are generally considered to be comfortable and mention others that have garnered complaints for being uncomfortable.  However, the only way to know for sure is to wear them yourself for a time equivalent to your longest listening session.

The Beyers are generally considered to be comfortable--if the ear cups are not too small for your ears.

I currently own a pair of HD650's. The pads are soft and comfy, they have a really wide soundstage, and with an amp all the details of your song will come alive.

I am actually curious about the maddogs. I was considering getting them but did not know much when I was buying new cans.

Sounds like a temporary trade is in order?
