Hello dear Head-FIers,

I would like to ask for your expertise on this issue. I'm looking for a new pair of Headphones to use with my NFB-11 and my PC/PS-4.

I'm quite the hiphop-head/gaming-enthusiast, so a detailed openback model with a powerfull bass would be perfect for me.

I was checking out the DT 1990 Pro from beyer which look pretty good so far but I would love to read some morer names, I'm not afraid of any manufacturer ;-)

Oh and before I forget, the budget is currently limited to 600$.

With kind regards,

I think what you are describing is a Philips FIdelio X2 or X2HR. Tremendous bass extension, good detail, and a massive soundstage. The X2HR is the replacement for the X2 and will be released shortly, according to Gibson. Two more options you might consider are the HE400i and the HD650, neither of which has the bass of the X2, but both of which are terrific headphones.  A few thoughts. FWIW.

Thanks for the input!
So you say that the Philips FIdelio X2HR have more bass than the HD650? I'm asking because I had some listening sessions with the HD650 & DT990 and the DT990 had a little bit more force behind the bass. I don't think the DT 1990 pro have a significant greater bass than the DT 990 so the X2HR seem pretty interesting right now! How is the detail compared to the HD 650?

I would say that the current iteration of the X2 has better bass extension and force than the HD650 has. That said, the HD650 I believe has substantively better detail than the X2. The X2 has a wider stage than the more intimate 650 as well. So, they have different strengths. We do not yet know how the X2HR is going to sound. Gibson has stated that it is an upgraded version of the X2, but whether that is the case or it is just a cosmetic change we will have to wait until we can listen to it. All three phones you list are good, there is no doubt. They are just different. Be aware that the DT990 can be a bit peaky in the treble--some people have difficulty with that.   ---)
