"Open Alpha" T50 3D printed headphone project from MrSpeakers

The big trace to the right of the missing pad looks fine, maybe you can scrape the kapton off and solder to that? If the impedance still reads OK, the driver should be fine.

I did think of that, but I’m not quite sure how to safely remove that tiny strip of kapton. Do you have any suggestions?

Honestly I'd just carefully scratch at it with a razor blade until you see shiny copper, then see if you can get a dab of solder to adhere with the help of some flux. It might be difficult not to overheat the traces, but it's not like you can mess it up much worse than it already is

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's contributed to this forum. I read every post on here, and I appreciate all the thought and work that you all did. I'm late to the party, but I'm so glad I made the trip. Loving these.

I guess I'm the latest to the party, but I made my open alphas early this week. Playing around with pads now (between Dekoni Elite Velour and Dekoni Elite Hybrids that I have here) but I'm absolutely loving these. Printed at 100 micron with 15% gyroid infill.

To add a little more to this, I documented as much of the process as I could remember to, so here's an imgur gallery of pics from the process: Open Alpha Construction

One last little thing I learned in this is if you're using the 2.5 or 3.5mm sockets, make sure to use a little loctite or some other thread locker, my retaining nuts have tried to back out.

Definitely not as late as me. Just finished a T50RP v2 (not mk2!) mod. Well, I actually designed these myself, but used the same ideas applied to the open alphas with some changes here and there:

I might add another coat of varnish, not sure yet. What do you think?
They look damn good! How do they sound?

I am still getting used to them, but I can say that I finally understand what soundstage is. They have a super wide sound, and a warm one too. In fact I initially thought they lacked sparkle, because my daily drivers tend to be all bright, but now when I switch back to them they sound super thin. Even my bookshelf speakers sound thin now, and previously I always considered them quite warm. There is loads of substance to these headphones.

Those are some fine looking cans. What kind of wood?

Thanks a lot! I am quite proud of my work :D Here another photo from my dusty home office:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/UDpwmNdnCKXHDot58

That's a very special kind of wood...made by my 3D printer  I treated the cups with wood stain and varnish to make them look like the real thing.

Nice. They look bigger than the open alpha spec. Or maybe your work on them has made them larger than life.
