I'm new here & this is my first post, so here it goes.

I've got a 60GB iPod right now. It's about 2 years old, but I haven't been able to use it in about 5 months - it stopped playing in both ears. If I wiggle the headphone connection around, it works okay, but I have to hold it pressed to the side for it to do that.

What I'm thinking is the headphone jack on the inside isn't making contact with, well, something. So cracking it open and soldering it back in place should work.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? How hard is it to open up an iPod?

I know on older models, the headphone jack still can't be messed with (trying to push the leaf spring back out to get the second channel). It is in a box-like holder.
You might just want to send it in to Apple and have them put in a newer battery while they're in there. IMHO.

You could also ask Vinnie Rossi (Red Wine Audio) who does the iMods if it's do-able or if he can do it for you for a smaller fee than Apple...he opens them all day long.

I had considered sending it in to Apple, but if I'm not mistaken, it's no longer under warranty and would cost something like $170. I'm not willing to drop that much money on it.

My Cowon A2 has the exact same problem at the moment, and although I currently use an 5.5G iPod as the source, I'm thinking about fixing Cowon in near future.

I sent my iAudio X5L to Cowon and they fixed my headphone jack for free. I just paid for shipping to them.
