Hi all

The first headphones I ever bought, was the Philips HP910.

After some time, I started buying hi-fi phones which I have read about on these forums. I've had K81 DJ, SR60, AD2000, A900, DT880 and Proline 750. I've sold them all, except my SR60. Today I decided to give the HP910's a try after years of non-listening, just lying on the shelf.

OMG what a sound they presented to me !!!!! This is way better than what the SR60's can provide! I'll try to explain it better in detail.

First off, the comfort on these phones are just splendid. They sit so nice around my ears, and the pads are wonderfully constructed. The SR60 are quite nice as well, but it doesn't lay around my ears - they lie upon them.

Now, moving on to the sound. I was kinda shocked with the impression these old phones gave me. I thought the SR60 was superiour to them, but I was proven drastically wrong! It's like they was waiting for their comeback, and WANTED to impress me. I'm proud of them

They managed to put a big smile upon my face. I have spoiled myself with expensive HPs for the last couple of years, and now I'm finding love in these - wow! I will certainly never listen to my SR60's anymore while these are in the house. I'm on the look for new HPs, but until then - the HP910's are my first choice!

Bass detail is great. I'm kind of a basshead, and appreciate deep hitting bass with lots of detail as well. The HP910's deliver with ease. Not as hard hitting as the AD2000's and the proline 750's, but certainly enough to make me impressed. The details are better than what I recall from them. Soundstage is wide, but also in your face if the music is produced that way. Listening to "Ross Copperman - They'll Never Know" I'm dreaming away. The piano is panned to each side, and the vocals are right up there in your face - still lush and comfortable. The highs is a little sharp, I think. That's the biggest set back on these phones. But the volume has to be cranked up pretty much in order for the drivers to produce such sharp highs.

All in all - I think these phones are the best I've ever tried in their pricerange. Easily outperforms both the SR60 and the K81 DJ. The K81 is much more bassy and powerful, but I've become more of a lover for details in the past though, so I would prefer the HP910's over them anyway. Maybe not for portable use

Hey, congrats! That's cool, discovering that what you've had all this time is actually better than the stuff over in your neighbor's yard. I've always believed that we, on Head-Fi, are only scratching the surface when it comes to quality HPs, amps, DACs, components, etc. A few popular brands get a lot of air time here, but the vast majority are totally ignored even if they may be superior to the stuff that we talk about over and over again. The upside of this practice is that a lot of really good stuff may be available out there at garage-sale prices because they're not on the Head-Fi radar screen. I keep hoping to stumble on something like your HP910 in the thrift shop that I visit regularly. I'll keep looking.

Reading the old review I linked above, you are not the only one to think of them as great phones in their class.

philips has been underrated here a lot and often. from budget headphone hp805 to philips mid-price(not head-fi mid-price) hp895 and hp910 to the not quite as good as hd600 but better than hd595 hp1000. this happen

for me the biggest problem with the HP910 was the fit.
Because the headband is unadjustable they lay all their weight on the top of my hears. probably the least comfortable cans i have tried

plus the build quality sucks, they are ugly... and they will kill your family while you sleep

Someone in the German hifi forum (no newbee) implanted KSC75 drivers into the HP910 and was very content with the results.

Just got to agree to that! I bought mine "new" (Probably used as demo in the store, but I could not se a single scratch or dent on them) for $20 in an electronics supermarket sale a year ago or so.

I'm listening through mine right now because they are such great cans with the mac book pro!

I don't think mine are even properly burned in yet, but still here is my review:
