Picked up an older Rega Planar 2 turntable with old style RB2 tonearm and Audio Technica AT15aE Cartridge for $50 at a garage sale today. This older version has the wood frame around the base and features the glass platter.
I don't need another turntable, but thought it may be the perfect way of getting somebody into the vinyl game. I've hooked it up and everything is operational, but here a few catches:
1. The motor is weak. You've got to help it start by giving it a spin when turning on. There are replacement motors available, if you decide later to upgrade your table.
2. I can hear some slight speed variations during play. My guess is, that the rubber belt has worn and needs replacement.
2. The signal cable has some intermittent problems. If you twist the cable a certain way you don't hear it, but you probably want to replace the cable at some point. I also don't know how good the tonearm is, you may want to get yourself a used rega 250 or 300 and that would take care of cable problem at the same time.
3. The acrylic top has some scratches on it.
I don't want to ship it around, so whoever wants to pick it up for $50 send me a PM and we'll arrange something. I live in Orange County.
