I have a system that includes an SAE 2500 power amp, an SAE Mark1XB preamp, a Mark VIII tuner and a pair of Ohm F3 speakers. One of the speakers is in need of repair from the factory that we will cost $150. In its day, 1970's and 80's this system was top of the line. I am wondering what this equipment is now worth, how does it compare to todays equipment and how would I be able to connect headphones to this system going through the amp. The only headphone output available is on the preamp and the Denon Cd changer I have connected to it. The audio source on both is low level volume

Hi,

You can connect headphones to your system via the headphone amp that you need to buy separately. You can attach the headphone amp to your preamp via the tape loop. Connect the tape out to the headphone amp's input jacks and connect the headphone amp's output to the preamp's tape input jacks.

As far as getting money for your system, I don't know how much you can get, but I'll give you an example of worth: My friend bought the IRS beta speakers in 1990 for $12k. They now go for about $3k. I would assume that your system isn't worth much, but I could be wrong.

There are also devices like Antique Sound Labs UHC (reviewed on Head-Fi) for listening to headphones via the speaker posts on an amp. They don't get much buzz because most folks using this forum have better head amps than speaker amps!
