Currently, I own a pair of AKG 242 and a rather old Sony all-in-one av system that functions as a DVD player and speaker amplifier. The 5.1 system this amplifier amping has a problem of one of the channels becoming very low I volume with a lot of noise, while others work fine. The whole speaker system has now changed and I’m left with this piece of hardware I cannot sell with several problems (it automatically retracts its disc pad sometimes).

Just wondering if I should buy a pair of toslink/optical cable to use it as a DAC and amp, since the sound from my computer lacks and I do not own any headphone amp. I do not own an optical/toslink cable because my older ancient system did a switch over analogue stuff to HDMI cables. One note I should add is that a label reads on the all-in-one “Integrated headphone amplifier”, perhaps suggesting that it uses another amp that won’t be problematic like the one I described above?

Thanks
