Ok so im looking for a new set of headphones i already own Grado SR 80's and Sennheiser HP 497.. Both gifts from my dad.. We'll i listen to music probley 2-5 hrs a day on my headphones and have gotten ALOT of use out of them.. I like them both, but the sound quality of the Grados is incredible. The only draw back is i want to get a new pair of headphones that are closed, so that in school not everyone around me can hear what im listening to on free days, etc.. I'm not looking to spend very much money so any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

AKG K81DJs, perhaps? They cost only around $50 and have a great reputation.

Or, if you want to go even cheaper and don't mind having clip-ons, why not go with some Koss KSC75s? Very portable and they sound great for being less than $20.

What does the mean to you dollarwise? Your definition may be very different than that of others. I recently needed closed cans for work and got Darth Beyers. I'm surprised how much I like them and now have a hard time keeping them at the job. I'm at home listening to them now. You can probably pick up stock DT770/80s for around $150. You can always turn them into Darths later when the upgraditis takes hold.

I'll second the nomination for AKG K81DJ's. They're closed and they create a nice seal, so that you won't spill your music all around the room. Plus they have a great sound. If you like the SR80's you should really like these, they have great bass and are a phenominal rock can for the money. They retail for $69.95 @

But you can find them new on Ebay for about $55.00

More of a clamping fit in the beginning of use, but there are tricks to ease that, and it goes away naturally, and cool swivel cups for the pads. Other than that, don't get put off by the tag.
