Hey to all of you,

I just wondered, hmmm,  a neighbor mine has a very old ipod 4th gen.
Is that "upgradable" to more GB than just 40?
And if yes, how much more and how?

Bye,
JULIA
you can upgrade it to a 256GB SDXC card. Just need an adaptor.

And this

SD-CF II: SD to CF Type II Adapter (Supports SDHC MMC) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000YZGCIU/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_BSlgvb1JW8ZNA

I have a 128GB SD card in my 3rd Gen and my 4th gen iPods.

I tried to upgrade my 2nd Gen iPod (2004 and it wouldn't read the card or for whatever reason wasn't upgradable. It's a nice piece of hardware. And near mint condition. #sadface

This is the iPod I couldn't upgrade

Two questions:

1) Does a 4th gen see > 128Gb?

2) Does your 4th gen have a thin (20Gb) or thick (40Gb back)? When I tried to use a Type II adapter with a 20Gb 4th gen, I ended up shorting something out, so I've been concerned that there is slightly not enough clearance.

Thanks...

Don't recall which back, I'm guessing the thicker back. But yes, it does see the 128GB. As does my 3rd Gen iPod.

3rd Gen is actually one of my favorite body styles when it comes to iPods. I like how the buttons light up in a red color.

Can not use that adapter, 4th generation doesnt have ZIF hard drive, Julia you must use this type:

I think the buttons colors should have been the same color as the LCD.  Must feel weird using it, when you're accustomed to the click wheel.

You are correct. I did link the wrong one. (Was working from my phone). This is the adaptor I bought. had to go back through my order history. Cheap and works. This adaptor works for the 3rd, and 4th gen iPods.

It is a bit different. The screen in that photo looks more blue than it actually is. But it's definitely nice. Once of the things I like about it is that the capacitive buttons are built into the front case. There is no separate clickwheel. So there is no gaps where crude and dust can find it's way in through the tiny gaps. It's nice to have as something different, and more for the collection than anything. Same reason I have a 2002 2nd Gen iPod.

The 2nd Gen I was unable to put in an SD card. Wouldn't read it. So I'm stuck with it as a 10GB HDD. Oh well. Nice piece still.

Thought i'd weigh in on whether the iPod 5th Generations can be fitted with aluminium housings.
Here's a 5th generation I just created with 128GB SDXC. It has a 6/7th gen front and midframe. The only difficulty was the clickwheel. I had to take the flex of a 5th gen and put the front and metal support of a 6th gen wheel together to get one that sat flush and worked. This is actually for sale but I have no idea on rules about advertisements so I wont link to it.

For you guys, I installed the msata drive together with the tarkan adapter. For some reason the battery says charging but so far, after two hours, is not showing any improvement, in fact itunes doesn't recognize there's a device. My issue is that I don't really know if the issue could be something else. Any ideas?

It's on but in recovery mode. I tried restoring the ipod in Mac (that's the only thing you can do) and it said that the ipod couldn't be restored. An unknown error ocurred (1430) Any experience with a similar issue? Do you guys think I should format the ssd before?

The ssd is a crucial m550 512gb, I just ordered the usb + firewire cable and a battery.
