^ It should, as long as you format miscroSDXC (note: not SDXC) in Fat32 format.

True, but I'm not even sure if there's already 128GB microSDXC cards in the market yet (at least widely available), just 64GB. But it won't take long... And then there's the price!

Apparently that adapter only works for up to 16gb microSDHC's. Not even 32gb microSDHC cards like many would expect would take 64gb ones. I have no idea if you can get more than 64gb of storage with that thing.

Thank you for this usefull Threat. I'm thinking to mod my Ipod 5.5 30gb and I found out, thanks to you, that there are so many options. About the 128 gb microsd, it is not available yet. The thing about this sdxc cards is that there are two types, one is compatible with sdhc slots and the other not. So, if the 128gb microsd is from the second type it would not work with the PhotoFast.

If I want to upgrade my 30gb Ipod Hdd without changing the slim backlate, should I go with ssd or tarkan? I'm thinking about 128 gb or more

you got a 5.5g, you can go 240gb HDD (I've tested this). but you'd have to get a larger plate. Either option should suffice for your needs.

I would not draw a conclusion without trying it first. That adapter was released in 2009, at which time the biggest microSD was 16GB. The company probably wrote that product description in 2009 and never bothered to update it. There is a very slight chance that 64GB microSD may not work there, but 32GB ones should. I would like to try it at least, if I can buy it somewhere (maybe someone from Taiwan can help here). That adapter was said to be $30 only (according to 2009 press release), so not much to lose there.

I gave this method a shot on the iPod Classic 7G using both the Renice K3vlar and Supertalent 240GB SSDs. Still no joy. Sticking with my 240gb magnetic drives for now. <sigh>
What I really want is a 480-512GB player with a good DAC and headphone amp build in...or one that will take several (4+) SDXC cards in a manner similar to the adapter discussed above.
I've had 35 years to accumulate a rather large music collection. The ability to haul it all around lossless in a reasonably-compact form-factor would be, well, a pipe dream at this point.

Very similar to what I am looking for.

The answer for now is iBasso DX100 with portable SSD/HDD via USB. Quite bulky to say the least.

Alternatively, wireless streaming storage with optional SSD mod:

Something similar but the HDD/SSD will be connected via USB instead:

Another way is starting with a pretty small Linux box with compact SATA to USB adapter:

Personally I am looking forward to ZIF adapters for Retina Macbook Pro SSDs because they are small enough to fit inside an iPod while capacity of SM768E available now is a whopping 768GB. We just need a factory in China to manufacture that and test that with an iPod.

I have a setup like that, using a diy NAS with a 2tb HDD and foobar as dlna server. I use my Ipod Touch with the PlugPlayer app, all my collection is in lossless and I can play it flawlessly with the iTouch without transcoding and I can't be happier with the audio quality. Of course it is 16bit/44.1 unlike with iBasso. The only issue is the battery life using wifi all the time, the battery last only 10 hours more o less. However I use the E11 and the battery life is practically the same.

I'm very interesting in that Seagate Satellite, could be a very good portable solution

EDIT: My collection is in FLAC and PlugPlayer plays this files great, I don't need to deal with converting to ALAC or using iTunes

^ That CloudFTP is a fully portable streaming USB host. I discussed it briefly in my thread here:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/620238/streaming-flac-to-iphone-ipad-or-android-portables#post_8568578
Please feel free to commen there. You would need a 3rd party app to play flac.
^ Edit: This CludFTP may not work for streaming lossless music as it has a streaming speed cap of 400 kbps. I just talked to tech support of CloudFTP.

I read some Amazon reviews on that SeaGate Satellite Hdd (A reviewer tried to stream music portably). It seems that its firmware/software is not good enough for portable use.

Sorry for being out of topic.

I have an iPod Classic 6g (fat iPod) that I would love to try and upgrade to an SSD. I was curious if any one has tried these 2008/2009 Macbook Air replacement drives from Other World Computing
