I'm working in a night shift IT Helpdesk and I have only one
other colleague working with me on that time.
It's 11 hour shift, just two of us, and not much task to do
so we quickly run out of conversation. Plus I'm not much of
a talker, more a listener.

Do you talk a lot with your office colleagues?
Any idea for conversation topics for quiet person like me?

Who I work with is one of the best indicators of how much I like the job.

When you want to start or continue a conversation, ask the other person about themselves. People love to talk about themselves and will do so forever.

Sports, cars, movies, music, what you saw on tv the day before etc... the usual light stuff you talk about to someone you don't know well. By then you should know what he is into and then you can talk about headphones and bring him here and make him broke.

I am assuming you are both guys.

i'd say discuss something vulgar or something that really piques human curiosity.
yes, this may sound distasteful, but it's the best way to spark a conversation with ANYONE.
of course, evaluate if he's one of those nit-picky persons who is so finnicky about anything outside of 'normal' things.
also, try not to talk about bland things.. they usually loop to conversation enders such as "yeah" and the like.

i found these are the best ways to get to know your coworkers, i got to know mine better by talking about existential questions. we were very similar on our ideas of the universe.. YMMV
