Hello, all!
Well, I thought I might start a thread on the OEM systems that we have in our cars. I hope that this does NOT turn into a thread for aftermarket systems, but the OEM most of us will never substitute.
I own a 2011 Volkswagen GTI; a car with a Dynaudio 8-channel amplifier/crossover, touch-screen double-DIN head unit, and eight Dynaudio loudspeakers. Specifically, the system has four 5.25" MSP woofers with 3" voice coils complimented by two 1" soft dome tweeters (front) and two 0.75" soft dome tweeters in the rear interior quarter panels [I have a 2-door GTI]. The overall sound is very natural, except for anything above 3kHz. High frequency energy is at least 3-5 dB above the LF drivers. to correct this, is is much more natural to reduce the treble control, rather than boost the bass. I really hate using the tone controls, but this system is so bright, it is necessary to reduce the treble somewhat.
Overall, I rate the system at 4 out of 5 stars, mostly because of the overabundance of HF energy. Don't get me wrong...the four 5.25"/3" VC woofers have good impact and extension, but they just can't keep up with the biamped, equally powered tweeters.
I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT YOUR OEM CAR AUDIO SYSTEMS! TELL US ALL WHAT YOU THINK!
