I guess they sound the same but X20 has additional buttons so using it may be more convenient...

I would bet they're using the same chip, but the firmware will be different. Unaware of a any other differences that would change SQ.

Look at Rockbox firmware, Sansa Clip or Xduoo X3 with it sound different than with the original firmware.
