From what I've been told, it is replacing a part inside (I would assume the board which holds the jack) and that you only need a screwdriver to install. I'm still waiting on mine, so I will update as soon as I receive it.

Yes, do tell, as this would interest me as well.  I have been pretty happy with mine so far.  I feed it a pretty wide range of headphones as well.

Is buying the HAP-100 to power a pair of D2000s a bad idea? Seeing as how they are really low impedance (even though they love a good amp)?

This is very interesting. I have HAP-100 but I might feel that it don't deliver its full potential with low ohm headphones. I prefer my Custom Hifi Cable amplifier HA10SE with DC2 over HAP-100. I will most likely buy Fostex TH-600 when released, so a mod for making HAP-100 better suited for low ohm's headphones is very welcome!

Low impedance headphones with flat impedance curves shouldn't sound that different on the HAP-100. The maximum voltage swing will be lower, but you probably don't need as much to reach high volumes anyways.

Most obviously noticeable (though also expected): volume is louder.

So I guess the first question that comes it mind is: Does it improve the output for the lower impedance phones, without sacrificing anything from the higher impedance headphones?  Is it still 0.5 Watts into 300 Ohms?

It does improve how much power is available for low impedance headphones. You will still hit the current limit of the amplifier either way, but it'll be louder before you do.  
 
I've been using it with the Beyer COP (16 ohms) without any problem.

I've been listening to the HE-6 through the HAP-100 today. It may not have the headroom of a speaker amp, but man there's just something so relaxing about the combination. My T50rp sound almost bright with it, yet the HE-6 is just... groovy.
 
It doesn't really make sense since the HE-6 should be the brighter one... but that's what I hear. Strange huh?

Do you still have the Dac-100? How different is the sound coming straight out of the dac-100 vs hooked up to the hap-100 with high impedance phones?

I believe the part should be available as an option for those customers who request it. 
 
I actually prefer original configuration with the DAC-100 which helps to decrease the noise floor. With the HAP-100, it's a very small difference... and even then I think I might also lean towards the old config unless you're really set on using a Senn HD5xx.

The jumper lets you choose to bypass the output resistor or not. The jumper towards the front position (left in the picture) keeps the resistor in place. The jumper towards the rear position will bypass the resistor.

I'm interested in the HAP 100. Yet it seems  there are not so much owners.
NuForce is an important trademark, but you can't tell if they  made a really good work with this hp amp.
Any further impressions, particularly   about the compatibility with Orthos (Mad Dogs) ?

I find it does quite well with orthos. I have my own modded T50rp and it pushes them to sufficient levels for me. If you crank it all the way though, you'll still hit the current limit of the amp. 
 
Right now I've actually got them driving the HE-6. It's not "loud", but certainly good enough for moderate level listening.
