It seems like it was announced quite a while ago, but the release isn't now far away. Being the most media centric of all smart phones, I was curious, who's going to get one to play music? New ads here.

Well I'm hoping the Nokia E90 will be released soon. That going to be my next phone. Once the Iphone is released here in Europe I'll check it out but for some reason I'm not totally hot for the concept of a closed OS..

I'll get it once it can be had for like $300 dollars and I know there isn't any major problems with it. Let the early adopters work out the kinks.

What open source OS is the Nokia E90 going to use?

This is more than just an exciting new handset, my friend. This is a game changer. All sorts of competitors will come out of the woodwork and soon enough, people won't settle for another clamshell do-nothing phone. They'll want the Iphone or something like it. No more messed up buttons and joysticks. People will want something that is beautiful and functional. There's plenty of people who want a laptop in a pocket and industries know this and will capitalize upon it starting June 29th. Not to sound like an advertiser, but its clear that the cellphone timeline will be split into two categories: the stuff before the Iphone, and the better stuff after the Iphone. You'll see. Just sit back and watch the industry change. I suggest everybody who doesnt have the cash just wait another year with their handsets because things are going to change and more people will be able to afford an Iphone-like device in a newly competitive market.

I don't think "people won't settle for another clamshell do-nothing phone" statement is necessarily true. The iPhone might be bigger and the normal phones would be for people who want a phone for the main purpose. Being a phone. I'm sure people like my parents would rather just have a phone rather than a laptop in a pocket... too complicated! Infact, i'd rather have just a phone and i'm 19. I've got an DAP and a canon 350D to handle everything else.

But also, i'm slightly jealous that everyone in the US gets to see it before we do!

what Milamber said. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who just use a cellphone to make a phone call. Period. O the iPhone is nice and sexy looking but I've got computers, Ipods, etc for everything else.

By the bye: now I know why Itunes has had recent updates in Itunes--getting us ready for that "album art" display for the iPhone.

Still--their product mix is now going waaaay beyond computers which is a really interesting marketing blend of products

Sorry but I want my phone to be a phone, and my DAP to be a DAP. I don't like converged devices, no matter how sexy. I don't use Treos either.

That being said, I want an iPod that looks and acts like the iPhone.

the thing is that this is $599 with 8GB or $499 with 4GB WITH a service contract, even the most expencive smartphone cant be that expencive with a service contract, and getting a data plan its even cheaper,

4gb in SD right now is around $50 and 8GB is around $70-$80,

add ipod SQ (you know that without a line out amp or Imod it sounds like ass) and the fact that the battery life is advertised to be 15 hours (probobly 12 hours in reality), i think that the iphone is going to sell to ipod fanboys and some rich kids, but it wont have the great acceptance apple is expecting, apple isnt going to be the next nokia, also take in to account that alot of manufacturers try to cram as much functionability as possible in to some devices like smartphones and you end up with a device that does everything but badly,

but then again, rio players were cheapr, better and first on the market, the ipod still won, so never underestmate human stupidi.... human taste,

i loved the apple newton, it saddens me that this thing is its spiritual succesor,

Call me old fashioned, but I just want a phone, man. Something with a long battery life and an alarm feature and free when you sign up will do nicely (for me).

I still have a Nokia 623. It works, the shortcuts for txtn are where they are meant to be - not all over the place like new fangled things. I don't need a cam or vid function. I just want to txt and call people

I do hope they take the design and UI and stick either 10gb+flash or a thin HD in there - I would pay for it. Reading Steve?

P.S. Not that its coming out here anytime soon

Aevum, I have to disagree with you on a few counts. Forgetting the everyone knows iPods suck ass ridiculousness, iPods for the last couple generations has underestimated battery-life (likely in responds to the 3G bat life problems). Apple may not be the next Nokia, but is anyone? Is Nokia the old Nokia? And although the iPhone may dismally fail, the "take in to account that alot of manufacturers try to cram as much functionability [sic] as possible in to some devices like smartphones and you end up with a device that does everything but badly" is precisely what Apple is claiming they're doing differently and potentially why it will be closed/semi-open, no? As for Rios very incarnations and eventual demise, it wasn't human bad taste that sank that ship.

Not going to get it... too expensive... too many features that i'll probably not use. And an SE Walkman phone suits me just fine. I just need my phone to receive and send calls with a camera and some short sessions of music when i'm bored.. i really don't need it to view my word documents and surf the internet.
