NOUGAT: Drunken insults and meaningless rambling... Do you peek at locked threads?

Nov 29, 2004 at 2:47 AM Post #16 of 34
a long time ago, for some reason that escapes me, "poll" got replaced with "nougat" here at head-fi. mmmm, nooooooougat!

-edit-
daycart1,
i also didn't look at the "grinding" thread until it was locked. i thought it was about building a custom bike. good thing it was locked before i got there.

If I remember correctly, dhwilkin setup a poll thread on the correct spelling of poll. It was a nice tongue-in-cheek dig at the common misuse of "pole." Nougat was one of the choices, and I think it one. It was a fun thread, but I agree, the fun ones tend to get locked up and edited. The fart thread that ended CI comes to mind

Oh, and I vote yes.

Bottoms up,

zoboo.

Not only do I look at locked threads, most of the time, I've participated in them. Best I could, anyway. I, for one, was deeply saddened at the demise of CI. The grinding thread could have lived a long and glorious life there.

Yeah, why was the grinding thread locked? It should have been deleted instead. I know I wouldn't want my 13 year-old reading that kind of stuff.

Guess it's a good thing I don't have a 13- year-old, eh?

I often read threads only to find out they are locked when I get to the end.

On those few occasions that I notice a thread is locked before reading, I will check it out starting at the end and working towards the beginning. I like to read the carnage first.
Frankly, I'm surprised the grinding thread got locked. I thought it would have been deleted

I regret instigating the infamous "fart" thread in CI but it was surprising how many people actually contributed their own favoured techniques in public (aired their views if you like

) I'm not proud of the thread, or the stink it caused, but looking back it was one of the more enjoyable locked threads and I must confess I went in for a peek a few times until the thread disappeared off the face of Head-Fi for all time

If a thread is deemed inappropriate and "locked" why isn't it subsequently "immediately" deleted?... locking it will simply attract truckloads of rubberneckers who, possibly, wouldn't have popped in for a look if the thread hadn't been locked.....

If you did have a 13 year old they could probably teach you all you ever need to know but were afraid to ask about grinding

These days parents learn bad habits from their children, it's gone full circle.....

Insanity is hereditary it's passed on from your children.

Personally I learned alot from that grinding thread. Who knew? Kyrie does:
" It's all about the hip movement. If you can't get the hip movement correct, then you can never be a good grinder! Note the males and females should move their hips differently. The female should move her hips in a circular manner. The axis of this circle should be front-back: that is, with the circle facing the male. Meanwhile the male should move his hips in a crosswise circular manner with the axis being up-down. Usually this movement it terminated to a point at the front vertex of the motion, causing the pattern to be more heart-shaped than circular, with the pointy end pointing towards the female. The hands should be moved in rhythm to this motion, with the climax of each sequence being timed at the point. It is very important for the male and female motions to be orthogonal to one another, since this movement is symbolical of copulation, both the circular movement of the female and the heart-shaped movement of the male. To this effect, the distance between the male and female is largely varying depending on style, but the most common style used is where the circular motion of the male's movement is tangential to the plane defined by the female's circular movement. For a more intimate style, the partners should move closer so that the two motions intersect. This style should only be used when partnering with a significant other, or when flirting with a willing partner with the intention of taking it upstairs; in all other cases, it is considered bad form. For a unique effect, one or both of the motion planes should be angled such that the line of intersection is not necessarily parallel to the ground. Another important point to note here is that at NO time should the male's pattern of motion be totally separate, that is, without any intersection points, from the female's motion. It is the male's role to make sure that this does not happen, since such as a style of grinding is known to symbolize impotence on the male's part. "

What the heck. Isn't that just sex vertically with your clothes on? Uh oh...daddy radar is already kicking in.

That'd be weird if you had one, and he was CompDude and you didn't know each other were on here...

grinding is the "forbidden dance" of 2004. actually it is simply frottage, or rubbing the naughty bits together. if you don't know how to do it yet, you shouldn't try. just be a kid and enjoy it while you can.

well it seems we like to peek.

me too.

In the case of the Grinding thread I didn't bother.

But if a thread looks interesting I'll peek at the very last page - just to see why it was locked.
