Hellooooooo

about a month ago I got my sr225s, and while I have enjoyed them, I don't think I love them enough to keep them.

I am looking into other options. The biggest problems I have are the small sound stage, lack of bass, and whereas the bowls are comfy for a while, long sessions get my ears a bit tender.

I am contemplating some dt 990s (I would love to trade btw

). Now, I love a good listening experience, but I am not so anal to have one be ruined if the music is not perfectly represented. As long as it sounds great and is fun, then I am happy. I have read that some consider the 880's to be better, but all I can find is that the dt 990's are really fun! I am looking at the headroom graph comparing the 880's and the 225's, and the grados are equal or better than the 880's in 3/4's the graph!

The dt 990's are 250 ohm impedence...thats a big jump from 37 ohms. I am building a cmoy, and have future plans, but would the dt 990's even sound good practically unamped?

How are the 990's as far as sound stage goes? I know anything will be bigger than the grados, but I have hd 555's that almost sound better to my ears because of the bass and soundstage. It brings a lot more to the table than the grados do imo. I don't however want the laid back experience that the high end senns bring. I want an in your face...errrr..ear, fun experience.

If anyone is interested in month old sr225's let me know, trades and $$ offers welcome! I can't make a for sale post yet

no amping atm, my volume pot is in the mail...no local stores sell a stereo pot What?

anyways...thats still just for a cmoy, not like its going to wake them up like a tube amp will.

I'd try the electrical tape if I was certain I wasn't going to sell them...I don't want to sell someone gooey bowls :P

I'll maybe try the different pads, but I really don't want to have to mail order anything else....shipping & handling is nickel and diming me recently

Wow here is my advice.

1. Stop looking at graphs
2. Disregard anyone who says grado makes good headphones
3. Sell your grados ASAP
4. Buy the DT990's ASAP
5. The 990's are WAY WAY way way way way better, seriously, WAY better than any grado not made of wood. (I've owned most of them at one point)

The graphs are just interesting :P

I will probably wind up getting some 990's, but at least the pads will give me something to do until I can post in the for sale section

The pads will help a little but I promise that once you get the DT990's you'll be blown away and never go back to grado. At least you have that to look forward to. The dt990's are the only headphone that I truly regret selling, and I intend to get another set.

any input on using the 990 '05 250 ohm unamped?

I have heard that the 880's are great unamped and only get better, pretty similar case I'm guessing?

Yeah basically. I used the 990's out of my mp3 player quite a few times and they sounded great. The fullness wasn't really the same but the low end was still there and they were still very good. The amp definitely helps but I wouldn't really worry about it that much unless your DAP is weak, because you'll probably be close to max at the volume level at times.

Also the 990's are like wearing clouds compared to the grados, which are more like hockey pucks with sandpaper on them IMO.

Where'd you hear that? Straight out of my X5 they're pretty weak even at max volume. With the AE-1 in there they're a beast.

somewhere on here in passing :S

I am going to be plugged into my computer 99% of the time with an x-fi fatality profrag something or other series. I am getting into diy stuff, and after I finish my cmoy I want to move onto a pimeta, with the eventual goal to do a millet max hybrid or something similar with tubeeeeees

New pads help, Headphile Cpads are the best, but the lack of soundstage bothers me. Detail and PRAT are great for the money.
