could you suggest the best 'normal' headphones?

by 'normal' i mean like the ipod ones, not iems or the big ones...

my mum decided she doesnt want me getting iems as theyre too dangerous (when im walking as i wont be able to hear traffic) and too anti social:P but she said i can get the, and i quote, 'ipoddy ones'...so which are the best ipoddy ones?

Thnx Mayhs

p.s. could u do like the best without a budget and the best in a $40-60 budget?

Sorry to hijack, but do you think that the MDR-EX90 are worth a $30 upgrade from the IEMs that come with iPods? I've been looking for a substitute, and the MDR-EX90 are on eBay for like $30, so do you think there would be a noticeable gain in quality to warrant the $30?

Will do, thanks. Isolation isn't a big selling factor for me, but it is nice. Overall I just want really clear sound with nice base, but I'll look through those reviews to see what they have to say.

I can understand this concern. BUT what happens when there is a lot of traffic? You cant hear your music. So you turn it up. Now, not only might you not hear the traffic, but you might well be into hearing damage territory. More mums should be warning their offspring of the danger of buds IMO!

My advice? Middle ground, get a canal phone like the CX300. Enough isolation to save your hearing. You can still hear traffic (HiNT: You need to LOOK) and you enjoy your music. Also they are pretty easy to remove.

I can't think of any.... Earbuds of some sort, but every earbud phone I have tried sounds paper-thin and lacks bass.

If you can stretch your budget... MDR EX90? perhaps? They don't isolate much at all.

good point! but i have told her tonnes of times...

i then got to thinking that (ive never tried iems) that theyd be difficult to take out/put in when im at school and talking to people...and when friends want to listen to what im listening to, inserting iems in their ears would be stupid...especially if theyre not very clean...
i decided that it was best to just get normal headphones or canal phones...

the sonys here in the uk are like £55 which are around $110...unless theyre cheaper in america or sum1 has them fs i cant buy them

...

i guess it comes down to the cx300 or ep630? or the sony ex90's if theyre cheap then?

by the way i listen to hip hop mostly, then rnb then jazz/soul/classical/etc.

Canalphones don't isolate as well as an IEM, but the difference between a canalphone and an "ipoddy" earbud is fairly substantial. If bass is a priority then you pretty much have to find something that seals (canalphone or IEM) or move up to something larger.

I was going to recommend those, but if he/she thought the EX-81's looked dorky...
