By normal earphones I mean that ones that just sit in your ear, not the actual canal. Obviously the bass won't be as good as canalphones or headphones, but I'm looking for decent bass.

I don't want them to be too expensive though, but I know from experience that cheap earphones are rubbish. I'm a big fan of Sennheiser btw (although I've only used their canalphones)

Yuin makes some great earbuds, do a search for the yuin pk series. The pk3 is around 40 bucks and I love them. I'm pretty sure that senn makes some too, but I have no experience with it, so maybe someone else will chime in.

dauoda beat me too it.

I just recently left the IEM world. Tired of compacting earwax. I picked up the Yuin PK2 and a surprisingly pleased. Really good sound out of an earbud to say the least. Good sound stage and detail. But they do not thump. Bass is present and does a nice job with bass heavy bands like Whitesnake or Dave Matthews. All in all, though it was a great purchase. Good listening without pain or earwax pushing down the canal!
