This post is for new headfiers who wish to learn about the "fuzz". Fuzzily asked questions (FAQ) help to clarify for those new to Head Fi.
Every headfier within them has two elements of the "fuzz". "Fuzz alignment" and "fuzz tolerance". The headphones which are genuine classified as fuzzy are obvious and they stand out. But beware of the dark side of the fuzz. These headphones have the ability to seduce you to the dark side using their dark fuzzy powers. Once seduced it will forever dominate your destiny.
The dark side of the fuzz is led by the evil sith Qualiatine. And his two loyal apprentices darth sa5k and count he60's. Give them a recording which is fuzzy and they will use their dark powers to seduce you.
Detail, instrument seperation, layering of instruments, soundstaging, lightning fast pace are tools of the dark side of the fuzz. On recordings like Clapton unplugged or the Corrs unplugged, where they are recorded and mastered with a fuzzy element. They almost fool you with its rendition of the recordings to make you think the headphones are fuzzy. But all they are doing is using their detail dark powers to convey the recording as it is.
In Headfidom about 99.9% of all headphones have the "fuzz".
But there is certain headphone which doesn't have any fuzz alignment. And it is fuzz free. This headphone is the Grado HP-series of headphones.
There are the genuine fuzzy headphones like the Senn hd650's, Ps-1's and the master of the fuzz the Grado Rs-1's. But very few fuzzheads can handle that amount of fuzziness.
Current fuzzy of the month (FOTM) are the Audio Technica's L3000's. But they are more to the dark side of the fuzz rather than being a true fuzzy phone. It's transparency with other fuzzy amps and non fuzzy amps is what gives its' fuzzy alignment.
Master what you have learned and do not underestimate the power of the dark side of the fuzz or suffer the same fate as other fuzzhead apprentices.
