Hey guys, I need a little help. Posted this a few days with no help, really. What I'm basically pretty new to all this amped headphones and everything. Picked up my first set of Senn HD280's about a month ago, and I love them. Got a CMoy amp that I'm not really enamored with so I'm in the process of getting a Electric Avenues Pocket Amp right now. So now I think I'm gonna try and move into the arena of home audio. I'm planning on picking up a pair of Beyer. DT 770 or 880's within the next few months and I wanted to know what would be a good home amp to get and a good SACD player. Since I'm relatively new to all this, I don't need any high dollar equipment because I don't think I can notice the subtleties in a 200 dollar piece of equipment and a 1000 dollar piece of equipment. I'm basically looking for a cost effective amp and SACD player for a new guy. Thanks in advance for any help.

As for SACD players, I bought the 963SA recently, and really like it. It makes a noticeable noise while playing some of my disks, but other than that I am very satisfied. I was able to buy it for only 180 USD, but I am not sure if prices in that range are still available. Check out this thread, as I thought that it was very helpful.

Also, I might recommend against the DT770/880. It is really up to you, but I think that just in case you get really into hi-fi you should buy something a little more high profile first.

Good luck.

To me, the Gilmore Lite is one of the best amps available without spending a ton of money. I'm not sure if $299 seems like a lot to you, but a lot of folks would consider it a bargain for the sound quality it produces. If I was going to invest the money in SACD, I'd want a pretty good amp in my rig.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. $299 is a little more than I was thinking but if the sound is as good as you say, I could probably manage the price. I'll do a search and read up on it. And why do you suggest against the DT 770/880's. From what I've read, they're both good sets, with lots of bass, which is really what I'm looking for. Anyone else want to throw some suggestions or help my way??

Wha?

Here is my suggestion:

Get this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1087342241470

I bought it for SACDs after reading a recommendation on this site - sounds pretty good.

Get the DT770's for bass. It is the sound you want. Skp the 880s.

Get the Glite; a great match for the 770, and a fantastic all around amp.

Next, get the hell away from this site before you become "hi-fi" and forget how to enjoy music.

I will second the Sony SCD-CE595. If you want a single disc SACD player, the DVP-NS755V is very good as well. You can get the 595 for less than $150.00 nowadays and I picked up my 755V for $100.00.

My headphones is the Grado SR60 and when it combines with the 595, SACD sounds very sweet indeed.

Thanks, Viro, that's exactly what I need to hear. Funny you say get away from here, though. Cause I really think that's gonna be impossible to do. While this site has cost me probably around 300 dollars or so, so far, I've discovered some music I never would have, if not for this place. So that much I am thankful for. After I get a good setup, though, I don't plan to spend too much on anymore equipment except for music, because I've yet to understand a lot of the concepts you audiophiles discuss here.

Maybe I won't pick up on any of it either.. haha. Anyways, thanks for your input guys, and if anyone else has a suggestion feel free to throw it my way.
