whats up everyone. i'm new to this board posting (been reading for some time though). i've been doing some searching, but i haven't been able to make a decision. here is what i'm looking for.

I'm looking for a CLOSED set of cans. Including future amp purchase, I don't want to spend more than a combined $300. I'm currently debating btw. the Beyer 831s, Ultrasone HFI-650 Trackmasters, Beyer 250-80s, and the Etymotics ER-6 (college student = can't yet afford the ER-4s). I'd say i'm listening to 3/4 rock, and the rest is either techno or jazz. I don't yet have one, but these will probably be driven by an Xin super mini or META 42. These phones will be used at the school library and such, so they have to be closed. They will be upgrading my AKG 240Ms. If I were to decide on the Etys, is it that difficult to use a canal-phone exclusively?

I really have done some searching, but I'm having trouble making a decision. The only set I know I might be able to audition are the Ultrasones (i'm in philly, usa). Thanks everyone.

How about getting the Ety 4P which don't require an amp and are within your budget?

Definitely go audition the Ultrasones and then tell us about your amazing experience.

Seriously, I had a simmilar dilemma months ago (couldn`t decide between the Trackmaster and DT250-80), then I got the Ultrasones and I`ve been Happy with them ever since.

well, i changed my mind. i ended up ordering a pair of HD-580s (

) from etronics for $169 incl shipping. i saw some mixed reviews of that store, so we'll see how they arrive. they actually emailed my tracking # to me 2 days after i ordered and they've been tracked to about 90 miles from my place.

now, i'm gonna grab an amp for these, and if budget permits, a pair of Ety er6s. from reading all your posts, you warned me about my wallet. man, you were right.

next step change your source, then your cable and power cable. After that, you can try other set of headphone, such as: HD600 or HD650......then.........
