So, 7506's being totally pervasive in the utilitarian audio/video industry, we have them in-house as well for video production and editing. Here's the rub, I'm sick of the pleather sweatiness after even just 20 minutes of use. I'm about to have 5 editors work an event at stations for hours at a time, so I'd like to get more comfy cans for them. My budget range is $100-120 per. They need to be closed so leakage is minimal. Isolation should be decent, but not the priority.

Thought I'd turn to the experts here. What are your thoughts? A700's? ...seems like they'd still have the long-use sweat issue...

Velour or other fabric pads are preferred for long listening sessions - and a lot of people just put Beyerdynamic DT250 pads on their MDR-7506.

If you're getting something with nonporous pads, the thickness of the vinyl (or similar) is what makes it better or worse. I know the A900 pads are terrible that way, so the A700 is probably worse. A1000 pads are more leathery, but that's out of your price range.

....hmmm.... I had thought about that, 'cept I'm having trouble finding the DT250 pads in the US for rush shipment.

Thanks for the clarification on the A700/A900's... was wondering about that as well. Would the A700's pads be replaced by the DT250's as well... did a quick search, but didn't find anything definitive.

Hmmm... interesting... I'll check those out... though, at first glance, I'd agree that they'd adversely affect isolation and leakage quite a bit.

No, the A700s can only use AT pads. It's a shame, since they're $40 a pair. The V6s are a fair amount smaller.

The A700 pads are terribly uncomfortable in warm places. Well, it depends upon how much you sweat of course. I probably wouldn't use them for potentially rough usage. They aren't the world's most rugged headphones ime.

Thanks, Ishcabible. Duly noted! That's good info to know... I guess what I'm looking for is DT770 comfort at the $100-120 level.

I just took another look at these... doesn't look too bad actually... looks like the material is pretty thin... this may just be the answer!! Thanks, Ham Sandwich!!

Hey, Ham Sandwich... just wanted to drop a line of thanks! Editing crew loved 'em and in-house crew is now subsequently enjoying 'em as well... got a batch in to cover all our 7506's for peeps here that want to use 'em! You definitely lose isolation, but the 7506's are far more comfortable over the long hall. BTW, the A700's are comfy (ordered in 3 for the gig), but don't accentuate critical frequencies as well as the 7506's. A700's also have this resonance that puts even close-mic'd mat'l in it's own headphone-generated acoustic space. Hard to describe, but it's something that doesn't sit that well with me.

Anyways... just dropping a line of thanks to you and everyone else on this thread! Cheers!

Ah, that's what the blu tack mod is for!

I did that to mine and resonance was greatly reduced.
