I'm interested in setting up a home rig and would like your help in recommending a good amp to start out with. My main phones will be K701's. I've had the tomahawk, and now have the pico for my portable rig and love them both. I've heard about tube amps, but have never heard any. In case your going to ask, I listen to alot of classical music, alot of Grateful Dead, and alot of jazz.

I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks!

What's your budget? $50, $500, $5000, ...?

Budget will be around $1,000. Could go a little higher for a killer amp. Appreciate the feedback.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Millett Desktop Hybrid from headroom. It's not quite up to the top of your budget, however.

I own Heed Canamp before (around $330 2nd hand), they're great for driving K701, detailed and able to pump bass out of K701. But I still think it doesn't unleash the true potential of K701, so I sold it.
Still a great starter amp for K701.

Currently I'm heading up to OMZ v4 with the latest headamp module, and reportedly driving K701 well on par (or better) than GS-1. I will report it later on, after the unit is arrived next week.

Otherwise, get tubes amp,
and if you really willing & able to fund for certain special amp.
I would suggest you to research on Eddie Current's Zana Deux.
Feb 08 is the last time for you to order this thing, before it's discontinued.

I own 701s. They work very well with my Blue Circle audio SBH. This is an incredibly musical SS head amp. It easily drives the 701s. It is very detailed and the 701s love detail. It costs about $1100. There are reviews by myself and Sylab on this site.

You can find Blue Circle Audio at Blue Circle Audio. Look under "SB" products
