I could sell $5 earbuds for $10,000 and say they sound "decent, but just overpriced." When you say something is "decent" it implies "decent for the price."

Well, I mean, you are paying, to a certain degree, for the ANC technology that Bose is famous for, and which I have to say works pretty well. Also, the MSRP is not that outrageous compared to other ANC cans in the same price range. However, they are marketed a lot to people who don't really need the ANC, and they fix prices so you never get discounts. Point is, they don't sound all that terrible.

I let someone try my AKG k518LE's...

He blasted Skrillex for 5 minutes and then said:
"These sound like my Skullcandy's... except worse. Where's the bass?" D:

I'd ask Skrillex the same question...considering there's 0 sub-bass in most of his music.

Only Skullcandy's I've tried were the Hesh, and the bass was, well there was none of it. Back of the package it was mentioned that the frequency response begins at 100Hz. xD I think they were honest at least.

I never noticed that. You're right, at least they're honest. They start pretty much right at MID BASS.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that... A lot of popular dubstep seems like it doesn't go under like 100 Hz.

*sigh*

First thing my friend said was "why didn't you just buy beats" and I explain how they were overpriced. Then he said "well then you should have gotten Bose". I continue to explain how Bose is just a brand name and there's not much substance but he wasn't very interested in my answer.

The better response to the standard "Why didn't you buy Beats/Bose?" is: "I didn't like them."  That way, no one can question you.

This was few years ago. Now they have a bigger driver, 50 mm, previously 40 mm. Frequency response is said to be 20 - 20 000 Hz. I have not heard those and I'm not going to.

I'm not afraid of being questioned. So I don't give a partial-truth answer like that, I give a real honest answer. Your post sounds like you're hiding from these people like they're practically predators etc. trying to look for arguments. I don't care, because in my position if someone questions my headphone choice, I will have an answer for them and I will win the 'argument'.

I guess it could be different in highschool or whatever if bullying or social issues are what you're trying to protect.
