Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II

And.... Penmarker was most likely just making fun of me. Dude, I can guarantee this kid was genuinely impressed with them. And I am not a dorky kid who runs around telling people to try my headphones. I barely ever let people even touch them, let alone try them unless they are one of my friends.

Ouch, what's with all this hostility? Come on guys, stop being passive-aggressive, we're supposed to be a civilized bunch here. Bashing dischord every time he pops up is starting to get old but I swear it happens at least once every week.

Back on topic. My friend keeps asking me to lend him my D2K. I think he really likes them

The other day someone saw a CD on my desk and said "You actually buy CD's?"  I explained that I prefer to rip them lossless.  She proceeded to ask if I could hear a difference and I said in some cases, for sure.  She asked if I played an instrument.  When I said no, she replied "I'd be more inclined to believe you if you did."  I gave up. She is an intern who started 2 days ago.  I was a bit thrown back to be talked to like that by someone nearly half my age who I just met.

I had to hide my amp at work.  I got tired of people asking me what it was and shaking their heads that I have an amp for my headphones.  I get called an "audio snob" for not just ripping at 128 or 256 and buying everything from iTunes.  I said I couldn't stand satellite radio because it sounds like crap and was again called an audio snob.  Sigh.

That's people for you, look down on those who wants to get the best out of there music just instead of listening to low quality rips. Maybe if you explained to them in detail why you have a amp plugged into your headphone, they may stop asking you unless they are those forgetful types. As For that girl that downplayed you that her lost if she don't believe you, let her enjoy her music with her tone deaf ears and what ever bad headphones or speakers she using.

Other then my family I will never come across people like that as I would never take my headphones out of my APT. In fear of someone running off with my T90 after seeing them on my head let alone hearing them standing next to me or in a quiet room.

I have no idea why he kept bring his open cans to school.. /img/forum/go_quote.gif

For school I think not just closed backs are needed, but ones with good passive noise isolation or something active like Bose QC15s especially if you're still in high school.... People are SO GOD DAMNED NOISY. /img/forum/go_quote.gif

Full cans, especially open-back ones are just way too leaking for me use outdoors. I like my music, but I don't want to bother everyone around me with it. /img/forum/go_quote.gif

Indeed, it's pretty loud outside. /img/forum/go_quote.gif

Would you believe that I used to carry this around at school?

My university is at the center of a hipster city so everyone cares almost only about the style. So is the university plagued by Beats and Bose. A few Sennheisers of course, but of course not the good portable rigs. Not even PX100. And my friends just recognize the ear cup plates of my V-Moda M80s are cool, not the musical side. I let one of them try the M80s instead of his Beats Solo and he said he could not tell any difference (sigh). Another friend said that all he want is only bass. Lots of bass.

The only one who do care about audio quality of headphones is my gf. In the beginning she showed little interest, and was happy with the apple ear buds which came with the shuffle. But as I convinced her to listen to my M80s and AKG K240s in a quite room with some of her favorite music, she started to notice the quality in headphones. In the following two or three months, I toured the city with her to audit every audiophile store which has some quality headphones demos. I also did a part of the Philip Golden Ear test with her so she could know the ABC in sound. Then she came to the conclusion that she needs a pair of stylish, relatively portable, and closed for her daily use.

She intended for Momentum on-ear because of the style, but soon discovered the sound to be way too dark and bass-heavy. Beyerdynamic T50p well impressed her, as well as Momentum over-ear, but the price tags were preventing (and I do have the over-ear Momentum). The final decision came down to ATH ESW9s and they are sitting in the local post office now! She said she would like to switch between the ESW9s and my Momentum frequently.

I don't remember MOE can be dark sounding @.@ but congrats having an audiophile girlfriend xD

Well she is not an audiophile by any means, but she values a good combination of quality and design. She'd prefer anything made in metal, leather and wood over plastics so she absolutely hates the plastic Beats and Bose. K240 sounded nice to her but the plastic body was a huge minis.

Anyway, MOE did sound dark to us, as we thought K550 would be standard, and ATH EW9 was on the bright side. The main minus of MOE was the deep V curve.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if it wasn't for the Stax being open and impractical. I can't quite enjoy audio that much when in school anyway.

That makes a lot of sense xD the K550 have the upper midrange spike and it's worse if you can't get a perfect fit.
