Hi,
I understand sample size and sample rate when it comes to digital audio but I don't understand what this "bitrate" is on my phone.

It says the bitrate of a certain track is 48kbit/s. What happened to 16bit or 24bit?

Thanks.

The bitrate is the number of bits that are read from the audio file, per second.
It's not a very meaningful value because it largely depends on the file format / compression.

Examples:
A 44.1/16 wav file has a bitrate of about 1411 kbps.
Higher quality mp3's have an average bitrate of 250 kbps.
AAC files have even lower bitrates at supposedly same quality.
