Man, I've been around here long enough to do a search before I post something, and I am in shock that no one else is having the same problem I've got.
During the summer time I usually crank the air conditioner, and use the Etys for most of my music listening. But, now winter is almost here, and I want to bring out the HD-600s. But, man my CPU is so damn loud I have to crank the volume way too loud to overcome the noise. Anybody got any ideas?

The fans or the harddrives are sources of noise. You could replace the case fans and CPU fans with quieter ones as a start but sometimes it's not enough as the harddrives and power supply fan(s) are rather loud. It really depends on your definition of what's acceptable noise

Check out:

I had the same problem so I built a rheostat based fan control rig. Now I can throttle my fans down to near quiet or up to a good steady roar. Anyway, poke around hardforum and you'll find links to tutorials on how to do that and several other forms of fan control. Also, there are several aftermarket solutions ranging from $50 to $200 that can serve as fan controllers.

Try playing around with different fan settings. Getting a fanbus, panaflo fans, etc. Also, you could try getting dynomat sound deadening sheets. . .

heh, dynomat...as geeky as people here are, that focus is on headphones, audio and music, im sure alot of people are computer geeks too, cause i know i am, and you appear to be, but im sure putting dynomat and wiring up a baybus/rheobus is just a little beyond some people here.

i run a passive watercooling setup, using a ehiem 1250, a heatercore, and a maze 3, along with a GPU block. Keeps my temps at a somewhat toasty 44 degrees idle, but is completely silent. I also 5 volted my powersupply fan. My advice? You don't need a giant delta fan. Seriously, anything less than 60-70 celc is fine, and not going to burn your processor. I realize watercooling is pretty hardcore, but i'm a former memeber of madonion, and was a watercooling guru. I've also got a 7 foot watercooling bong lying around, if you're intrested, send me a IM @ Ebonyksdbz

I'm gonna blow a few bucks there once I recover from headphone-related overspending.

Recovery!! There's no recovery fro an open wound!! It must be left alone for a while to close up and heal!!!
