I have a SR4300 Marantz reciever which I use to connect all my audio, i.e. computer and Sony CDP-XE310 cd player. When I plug my ER-6i into the reciever I can hear a quite loud "noise", kinda fuzzing sound. This can be very annoying when listning to music such as classical which has more quiet parts.

Any suggestions on how to reduce this? Or is it time to buy a portable amp especially for my headphones (will i be able to connect this to the cd player?).

Thanks,
Ttvetjanu.

sounds like an impedence mis-match. Low impedence high sensitivity canalphones are notorious for this. Try an impedence adapter. Or a radio shack vol attenuator if you want to vary the impedence.

Yes an amp can help... but only if its designed for low impedences. If you get the "wrong" one it could make it worse.

I've heard that the P2V2 (by Gary) electronic-avenues is designed for low impendances. How much would an impendance adaptor cost, and will it completely reduce the problem? Seen as the headphones I normally use are 300 Ohms, whilst ER-6i's are 16 Ohms, I think this is the issue.

I'm going to check out an electronics shop that sells radioshack stuff tomorrow, is there anything else that would be useful to get for the future?

[edit] I also hear this "sparkle" when I change the volume with my Creative Zen Jukebox, might this be because of the same issue?

The radio shack attenuator Im thinking of is only $6 or $7 (US). Impedence adapters are usually a bit more.
