Are VPN's a big deal there? I don't use one with my Fire TV Stick, but my god, so many youtube videos say you should use them for streaming with Kodi etc.

A VPN is absolutely essential if you want to access Google services, Facebook etc., the Chinese government blocks quite a bit of technology from the US. This has been the case for the last 10 years, and it's an ever evolving situation. The UAE is in a similar boat, FaceTime, WhatsApp video calls, Skype are all blocked, a VPN is the only way to get at those services.

I'd say its bright. Even airer and brighter than the Katana. I'd call the Katana neutral...leaning bright, but the Kodachi emphasises the high frequencies and details there even more.
