I would love to read the review without having to pay for an issue download....

I can't find the review.
If you have to subscribe I agree. I wouldn't bother.
If its paying for an issue I might.
Not paying for content is shortsighted IMO.

It's not a full on review like the one in Hi-Fi+, just a blurb. I think these things make their way online eventually, so if you aren't interested in reading the rest of the issue then I would suggest waiting for it to pop up elsewhere. I will try to link to it when it does.

My question is the K10 custom and the K10 universal are the same price? Seems odd as usually the universal counterpart is cheaper.

The short answer is "Yes" the price is the same, the long answer is "No" as the costs for the aquisition of a CIEM are higher. (ear mold impressions, shipping costs, travel time for ear impressions etc etc)

No, you don't. You are way too approachable and upfront. You share funny gifs with your customers for christ's sake. You will never make it in this industry...

I'm yet to find any genre that doesn't sound its best from the K10. Granted, the hardest stuff in my library is Combichrist and Rammstein, but the K10 has phenomenal speed, resolution and punch. Should be a winner with metal!

May I humbly suggest some metal for you?  Most of these are available to listen for free on youtube(full albums), but of course you can purchase flac versions on bandcamp.  The first two albums are softer atmospheric metal, good for someone just getting into metal.  The fourth album is a must-listen imo, well they pretty much all are actually.  I listen to insane amounts of metal and these are at the top of my list so you can be assured they are all top shelf.

The Ocean – Pelagial(Progressive/Atmospheric Sludge)
Caladan Brood – Echoes of Battle(Epic/Atmospheric Black)
SOAR – Roots(Atmospheric Folk Metal, capable of long but not repetitive compositions)
Xanthochroid – Blessed He With Boils(Best Epic metal band on earth)
Hoth – Oathbreaker(melodic death album about darth vader)
Be’Lakor – Stones Reach (Melodic Death)
Woods of Ypres – Grey Skies & Electric Light(Doom)
Insomnium – Shadows of the Dying Sun (Melodic Death)
Tryptikon – Melena Chasmata (Doom)
Panopticon – Roads to the North(Bluegrass fused with Blackmetal)
Intestine Baalism – Banquet In Darkness (Brutal/Melodic Death Metal)
Bolzer – Aura. 2 man duo, lead singer plays 10 string guitar(Blackend Death/Experimental)
Orphans of Dusk – Revenant (Doom)
Ne Obliviscaris – Portal of I(Progressive)
Heaven Shall Burn – Antigone (Melodic Death)
Empyrium – Weiland (slow atmospheric metal)
Vektor – Black Future (Progressive Thrash)
Black Fast – Starving Out the Light(Melodic Death)
Benighted – Asylum Cave (Blackened Death/Grindcore)
Thy Catalfaque – Rosa Hasa Radio(Avant Garde)
Arbrynth – Abrynth (Melodic Death/Progressive Folk) Sent from my iPhone
Cannabal Corpse – Anything (Death)

Metal is such an expansive genre...once you get into metal it's like spelunking in a never ending chasm, you are constantly going down new passages and sometimes you find hidden treasures.

Check out this badass interactive map of metal: http://www.mapofmetal.com  (looks better on pc, too big for mobile imo).

Is the universal equal to the custom in terms of sound quality?

Quality?  That depends on the user.

If you are asking if the sound signature is the same between a custom and a universal.....

The measurements between a CIEM and an IEM (taken at the sound bore) would be essentially identical, but measurements taken at the level of the ear drum would be different and this is due to physics.

Does this mean one is superior, and one inferior?

Nope, just means different

Go custom brah...when you're spending this sort of money you want the best right?  If it were me I wouldn't want to be left wondering if the customs sound better.  But downfall; fitting issues may occur and resale value will plummet to somewhere around 50%-60%.

All I can say is the k10u sounds amazing. I've been listening to mostly rock and pop. I noticed the sound separation is good esp. in mid mid high sound req. the background vocals and drum symbol are very noticeable. When I listen to Pink Floyd ,they sound like playing in front of you.

The wait and effort of customs is well worth it! Have had my K10's on this morning during a flight and now on a train and am in my own little bubble of peace and musical goodness. Nobody's gonna break my stride, nobody's gonna slow me down...

Cheers
