Yes. That worked! Thanks! I talked with Brannan and now have some foam tips on the way to me!
I thought I’d give some quick impressions on a cable I’ve found to pair particularly well with my Encore U’s: the new moon audio bronze dragon. It adds a nice about of warmth and a little thickness down low and takes a little bit of brightness out of the highs—just enough to not lose resolution but take the edge off on tracks where I found came up to the line of becoming strident. I’ve tried a number of different cables in the $100-300 range with the encore, including a silver plated copper from impact audio cables, but none that I felt paired better with the encores than the stock cable. If any other encore owners are looking for a reasonably priced cable to add some warmth down low and a bit of smoothness up high without losing the encore’s clarity, resolution, or sparkle, the bronze dragons might be worth a go. Buildwise, they are super solid, very flexible, and not microphonic at all. I also think their color nicely complements the color scheme of the encores.
Just wanted to mention that I tried the K10 with my latest stack - Pioneer XDP-30R as source playing through ifi xDSD with a balanced silver dragon cable - wonderful combination - the K10 really surprises me from time to time, just how good it sounds....yummy yummy music.
I pair it with effect audio area II, overall just about right on where I want the encores to be
Using Onkyo HF Player for iOS I think I have somehow, somewhat accidentally found the sweet spot - in so doing injecting a bit more bass impact into my electronic music.
The curve is incredibly difficult to manipulate hence why it looks rather askew at the low end.
As promised, and I apologise it is rather late in coming, I have reviewed the Kaisers!
I endeavor to start a blog with this being its first post too.
(Is ~5,500 words too long....?)
So... What to do first...? Cable upgrade, or source upgrade?
I have had a tinker with the AK120 and didn't find it too difficult to use (a big thing for me is it needs to have large-ish font).
I think the general consensus is Headphones, Source, Amplification. Cables adding the last tiny improvement. I happen to think that cables do not influence sound but YMMV.
A good source should come before cables. But I've had my hands on enough cables now to know they do make quite a difference if you buy genuine quality (ie not just a pretty one).
The AK is a weird choice, as it's rather old now. What's your budget? I'm sure we can find a newer and indeed better option.
I'd like that phone/dap by onkyo
But i put my phone under a lot of use.... need service if required
The Fiio X7 mk.2 looks good...
Sounds good too with my Encores & Super Bax. Can highly recommend it! I whip out the Chord mojo connected with optical when I'm feeling like making an extra effort, but mainly I use the X7ii on its own to be honest.
I’ll be able to spend about ~$1.5k (AU) in August.
I think AK does a DAP with an inbuilt amp, although that might be stretching the budget a bit. I was of the thinking FiiO players hiss rather a lot.
