Since today I've been having this weird issue with my M-Audio AV40 speakers. I noticed the left speaker was much louder then my right speaker. So I started to play with the settings and to get the sound right I had to put the left speaker to 70% and the right speaker to 100%. That can't be right...

Are they defective or it something else? I checked the wiring between the speakers but that didn't help.

I can think of three spots that would control the balance:
system
media player
the speaker itself

Did you check all three?

It does the same on all media players, so that didn't have any effect. The speaker itself doesn't have a balance setting. As far as I know, the only balance setting is on the Asus Xonar D1 control panel, which is where I set the left speaker to 70% and the right speaker to 100% to make them sound equal.
