Hello everyone, this is my first post but I have been reading this forum for quite some time. I found this site when I was looking for a new pair of phones to buy and after doing a bit of reading I decided I would buy the Denon AH-D2000 phones. I placed an order with a website several months ago and I was told of the delay in getting them in stock, despite the site saying they were available. They still don't know when they will have them in. I contacted various other UK based sites and they too don't have any available.

Today I decided to phone Denon UK directly and I found out that the D2000s haven't been released in the UK or anywhere else in Europe. According to the person I spoke to, the limited production is due to some possible technical problem with the phones. Because of that, they have no idea when they will be released here.

I have read another thread here about people in the U.S. wanting to buy the phones and also having trouble. The solution was to try and order them from Japan. Stock there seems limited also. Yet if there was some technical problem, wouldn't they have not been released in the first place?

Is it still worth me trying to get these phones and if so, trying an order from PriceJapan? Lack of warranty could be a problem if something is or goes wrong with the phones.

Should I consider another brand/type of headphones instead? I don't know of any that are equivalent in quality for the price (around the £200 mark) and as far as I know, the D2000s are the best in this price margin for what I want the phones for. I don't want anything cheaper (which would affect build quality, ear padding materials, as well as sound) but am willing to pay another £100 more if I have to. I basically want them for general use, using them for playing games, listening to MP3s of all music tastes and for CD listening, using them mainly for rock, house/trance and ambient/"chillout" music.

Best regards.

This sounds worrying?

The technical problem may be something to do with the loose screw that I read about in another thread today. They are still shipping them I guess but just not making a large production run right now. Now I don't know whether to wait, order it internationally and risk defects or think about buying a different pair.

It's in stock at pricejapan.com, GBP135 shipped.

I'm pretty sure it is the loose screw, since I haven't seen any post that spoke of the sound being bad. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the info from the UK rep. It's good to know that they are aware that something is wrong. I just hope it's just the loose screw as the technical issue they are referring to.

Yes, it has made me wonder about actually going ahead and ordering. I know several people have the D2000s but it is clear that they are not being widely produced. It is quite often the case where if I want something, availability in the UK is limited in comparison to America. If availability is restricted over there then that suggests there is a problem. Yet why are the phones still being made, albeit in limited numbers? Is it the loose screw issue? The Denon sales rep didn't say what the cause was because they didn't have any details on why European distribution had been put on hold. But it did appear to be down to a technical problem. The fact that it might have been the loose screw is only down to me seeing a forum thread about it on the same day and putting the two together.

Now I am not sure whether I should wait for distribution over here or order from overseas. I don't like the idea of not having a warranty if there is this technical problem. I'm also not sure of what to make about the rumour that European distribution will be a slightly different version with different earpads. Does that mean lesser quality? One of the things that appealed to me about the D2000s were the leather pads. I truly hate those foam ones that have that thin rubber film coating that breaks up and sticks to everything in sight when it flakes off.
