Rememer though, a lot of pros use this camera as a backup and lots of very good amatuers (myself qualifying for neither of those groups) shoot with this camera. It takes A LOT of practice to get the results you're going to see.

ok thanks, i think it will be a very enjoyable experience to learn

i just showed my mum LOADS of photos from online galleries from sites like that of the Nikon D70 and she was shocked at the beauty. so it looks like i'll be getting one very soon

Lenses are just as important as the camera you use. And both are second in line behind knowledge... taking some kind of art/photo class is a good idea.

The lenses I use a lot:
Tamron 20-40mm f/4.5 (blech. avoid if possible)
50mm f/1.8 (awesome)
60mm Micro-Nikkor (Macro, focal length varies with focal point.)
and occaisionally my 80-400 f/5.6 (not sure about f/stop)

I'll bet you can't tell which were taken with the D70 and which with my old Nikon Coolpix 990 "prosumer" point-and-shoot...

Lenses I would recommend:
17-35mm AF-ED f/2.8 (big budget)
50mm f/1.8 (1.5x multiplication makes it narrower than I'd like)
85mm tilt/shift with extension tube for macro, or >100mm macro

Telephotos are really pricey. Ask Kevin Gilmore, he uses them regularly...

Yep for sure. Unbelievably pricey. Absolutely great for what i'm doing
recently which i really can't discuss here.

And the stuff that is not in the general catalog that is special order only
is far more expensive yet.

For a bit more money than the D70 you can have a kodak slr/n which
has no magnification factor and more than twice the resolution.

Kodak has today (Tuesday, 31 May 2005 ) confirmed that the DCS Pro SLR/n and DCS Pro SLR/c digital SLRs have been discontinued and will no longer be manufacturered. In our conversation with Kodak Pro we were assured that existing owners will continue to be supported through 2008 and that this will include firmware and Photodesk updates if required. Kodak will continue to develop CCD and CMOS image sensors and this announcement does not affect their consumer digital cameras. Kodak was keen to stress that this does not mark the end of Kodak digital SLR's but that they wished to concentrate on market segments which are more profitable.

Besides which eos 1ds mk2 not without a few bugs itself.

By 2008 there had better be a full frame nikon digital body.

hello again, is the 18-70 kit lens good for close-up shots. for example; things like flowers, insects, birds ?
