Ok, so first off, it's asinine for the NFL network to show games on a non-basic channel; all it serves to do is alienate fans and viewers who only have basic cable or whose cable providers don't carry the NFL network. Second, when the NFL launched the NFL Network, they clearly said that the channel would not show live games, it would be earmarked for promotional material or classic games. So they clearly threw that idea out the window. Not to mention, they didn't exactly pick crap games to put on the network. I'd be ok with games like Dolphins v. Raiders or Buccaneers v. Bengals or something like that. But no, they picked games like Giants v. Patriots, and Cowboys v. Packers. What?

Anyway, I live on campus at my university. We only get basic cable, but my parents have digital cable/HD at their house about 30 minutes away. They have the NFL network at their house, so I decided to drive out to my parents' house to see the game. On my way there, I get into a fender bender with a woman. I rear-ended her, so it was my fault; I didn't react fast enough, and when I put on my brakes, my tires locked up and I hit her going about 20 mph (no ABS on my car

). It really was a pretty minor accident; at most, there's less than $500 worth of damage between us. But still, it's a pain in the ass, because it's going to cost a bunch of money to straighten all this out. But I digress...

I get to my parents house and eat some dinner, then head upstairs to watch the game. I turn on the NFL network around 7:00 (the game was starting at 7:15). There's nothing there. Just a gray screen. I check the tv guide thing, and it clearly says the game is at 8:15 eastern time (central time zone here). 7:15 rolls around and still nothing. So I call my cable provider to see what's up (we have Knology cable here). Apparently, the NFL has decided to charge cable providers $0.20 per subscriber for the license to the Network itself; but if you want the live games, the cost per subscriber goes up to $1.00, which is "too much for [Knology] to pay," as the guy on the phone told me.

Let me get this straight...I drive 30 minutes and get in a wreck just to see this game on a channel we subscribe to but the NFL's greed and my cable provider's cheapness says no? What the hell? This is like a ******** slap in the face! This is one of the best games of the season (I'm listening to it on AM radio right now. Gee, how nice would it be to see it on TV!?!), and I can't even watch it on a channel my parents pay to subscribe to. What a load of crap.

If you hear a pissed off guy from Huntsville get kicked off The Jim Rome Show tomorrow.....that's me.....

Pass interference at the 5! Cowboys in the red zone! I'm glad I have this high-quality 20kb/sec streaming AUDIO to get these play-by plays! You know, since it's 1953 and all, and digital cable hasn't been invented yet.... OH WAIT!

sorry I keep bitching/venting. I'm just really pissed.

Nor are headphones. So we should close the site, right?

Or how about we agree that every discussion doesn't have to involve genocide and rapture, and we are allowed to bitch about things that suck, and if we aren't interested in a given topic, we can just ignore it and read about something more important?

That is some messed up turn of events man. Sorry you had more crap poured on top of your already crapty day.

Similar crap happens to me from time to time, and you think to yourself, "why the hell me?"
