I understand that the EQ is totally analog, but could you not have a plug in EQ module for each headphone. Then we would not have to buy a new (or additional) amp for each headphone we own or buy in the future?

It would increase such an amp's price and size by a lot in fact, as each headphone model would have to have its own analog EQ board.

Yes, you can use it as a balanced preamp for a separate power amp
