For those who enjoy the Grado sound, I pose the following question:
What is the next can up the Grado line to provide significantly better sound for the investment- the 125,225, or 325? According to the Grado lit, going up the line adds the following:
125- UHPLC copper voice coil
225- 0.05 dB driver matching
325- aluminum air chamber (earcup)

I guess this may be a question of which feature matters most.

That would be the SR125, on a value for dollar basis.

RS-1

actually I would opt for the Alessandro MS-1,fals somewhere between the SR-80 and Sr-125.
Next would be the 325.Before that there is not enough of a difference to really justify the extra cash

Really though, go for the SR325. You'll be saving yourself some money in the long run. If the RS-1 is anything like the RS-2, I didn't like the RS-2 at all; they were highly fatiqueing.

I'd suggest you try SR-325 for the its "Metal Sound". I upgraded from SR60 to SR325, the high is very detailed, and bass packed more punch than SR60.

Personally, I'll try out RS-1 if i want to go one step further, for its "Wood Sound".

Hope this little suggestion help

I would consider the 225 has the price break winner. Not too expensive. Great value for the dollar. I had the RS-2's and I think the 225's are pretty darn close. Lately I've prefferd the forward sound of the Grado's over the HD600's w/Cardas. Maybe my ears are going.

Hey Lextek,
I've been leaning toward the grado sound over my HD600/cardas since I got back from my short break last week. It's odd cause I swore I'm not much of a grado fan.

I'm wondering if it's because I've been using my K1000/aq1005dti combo so frequently.

The HD600/Cardas, at the moment, just feels a bit, dare I say, "lifeless" and "uninvolving". Don't know, may be my mood.

I'm at the same place. I love the sr80's, but wonder if there is more. What is the next step up? From what I'm reading here, the next step for me may be the 325, or the ety er4s. I like the detail of the 80's, but a little more bass, better detail in the high end (especially cymbals) would be nice. So which of these would be the sr80 sound but more of it?

the etys sound is going to be deeply embedded in your head.
I think you would really enjoy the 325. I noticed a huge overall improvement going from 125-325.

I will have to add yet another vote for the SR325. The Grado 125-225 are just not worth it as the differences are negligible, IMO. Nor is the RS-2 if you are aiming at the reference series. In terms of most significant differences, start with the SR60/80 then move to the SR325 and finally the RS-1. I am still searching for an older HP-1 but alas, no luck yet.....
