Well yeah... why not

I went from the Senns CX500s to the S4s and I was expecting a bigger difference. The S4s are well fun, the 500s just a little less clear overall... both are great value though.

So... what's the cheapest I could get a noticeable difference with the S4s? I would like better isolation (though that's easy enough with better tips, see my other thread), a bit more clarity and bigger soundstage I think. Though I'm no audiophile so I have no idea really where more expensive headphones would show off: I never heard anything above the S4s.

So far there's RE0 but that's pretty much everything I got on the list...

Thanks!

IE8s are about 300 euros here... The IE7s are 200 euros.

I paid 80 dollars at Best Buy for the S4s while in the US but I'm not looking at anything over 100 euros I think...

RE0's would be good, but you'll miss the bass quantity (I've got the RE0's and S4's). They've got more detail, sound more refined, more natural, and neutral compared to the S4's. Soundstage, headstage, and instrument separation seem to be about the same to me. Comparing the two head to head, it's really astonishing how different they sound. Haven't heard the IE8's or IE7's, but they might be good if you want more bass and wider soundstage while going a step up.

If you haven't already, but about 125-150 hours on your S4's. They really open up and sound much better around that point. The clarity and top end didn't open up as much as I had hoped, but I don't regret buying them anymore.

Also considering the Phonak PFEs... I know both the RE0s and these would be a bit bass light compared to the S4s, but that's not that big an issue. Mostly wondering if having all my files in MP3s (192 to 320) some of these may be 'too' good and in fact just show the file formats' issues...

Sorry to thread-jack... But this thread is very similar to one I was just about to post, as I am exploring different options for a 2nd set as well.

What do you guys think about the Tripple Fi10's vs. the S4? I have been thinking about them as my next step up, since they are right in between the S4's and IE8's (price-wise).

Listen to this man he actually read your post. You like bass so you went with the s4 is that what you are after? if so, add the cks70, the super fi 5, IE8 and the atrio m5(another mentioned this) These are the the bassiest headphones out there. You have tons of research to do choose wisely.
